Bringing The Fun Back Into Mathematics

Reddy-Made bring the fun back to mathematics through; practicing activities for developing recall of key number facts and explanation of calculation strategies; examining visual resources, practical models and ICT - based images that can be used to enhance the starter; delivering fun, practical and interactive maths using a variety of resources and images and through being able to develop children's abilities in chanting, recalling facts and calculating mentally.

Revitalising The Mental Maths Starter

The ‘Revitalising The Mental Starter’ course will set out a wide range of imaginative and highly interactive ways to help develop factual recall and consolidate calculation strategies. These will be modelled and demonstrated through practical resources, Key Stage specific discussion activities, dice games, reasoning games, songs and chants and many more great ideas for making your starters exciting and challenging!

Supporting APP In Maths

Reddy-Made will outline a wide range of activities, resources and ideas (practical, mental and ICT - based that could transform the way that you gather evidence to support your APP judgements. The emphasis will be on simple, achievable (and often paper-free!) ways of managing APP.

Developing Early Maths Understanding In Foundation Stage & KS1

The ‘Models and Images In KS1’ training will demonstrate a series of key models and images that, together with quality teaching, will help to really benefit children’s ability to think mathematically. These will be discussed and shown through practical activities, resource demonstrations, interactive ICT programmes, visual stimuli and many more useful ideas.

A Creative Approach To Problem Solving

More than any other element of the Renewed Framework for Mathematics, Problem Solving has been given the greatest priority. The using and applying mathematics strand has been built into every teaching block, and teachers are being encouraged to make sure that quality mathematical problems are being taught as part of every theme / topic.

Raising Standards In Year 6

The Reddy-Made workshop has been designed to help year 6 practitioners explore the implications of teaching maths; examine ways of tackling the key themes & concepts that children find difficult; establish a timeline for mathematics coverage and revision and review the range of resources available to support teaching mathematics to year 6 children.

Extending More Able Pupils In Mathematics

Reddy-Made have found through much experience that more able pupils in mathematics grasp new material quickly, use mathematical symbols confidently, develop concise logical arguments and can approach problems from different directions to find a solution. Therefore, they have a range of skills which need to be constantly sharpened and refined.

Maths Across The Curriculum

Reddy-Made want to help participants understand how mathematics can be taught discretely but also as a high quality medium to develop the teaching and learning in many other subjects. This training workshop will explore data handling as a tool for cross-curricular maths, especially using and applying. It will investigate different curriculum areas and demonstrate their links to key mathematical skills and concepts.

SEN In Mathematics

This training will enable participants to have a clear understanding of the key misconceptions faced by SEN children. They will have the chance to observe and discuss several valuable resources and ideas that could enable SEN children to develop a more positive attitude to mathematics, and which may begin to fill in some of the larger gaps in understanding.

Fun With Fractions! Dealing with Decimals!

Fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion are linked mathematical concepts. In the national tests each year, many of the FDPRP questions are not answered well, often due to children’s lack of confidence in making these links. Many teachers are themselves fairly unsure as to the best ways to teach FDPRP. Consequently many models and images are not used to their best potential.

The Quality Use Of ICT In Mathematics

For many years the NNS has been producing quality maths software (ITPs, Excel spreadsheets and Interactive Whiteboard software) for modelling, demonstrating and problem solving purposes. All of these materials are now available on the Renewed Framework website, and are directly linked to the teaching blocks.

Developing Mathematical Discussion

Here at Reddy-Made we believe that quality discussion within mathematics lessons is a proven way of not only developing children’s knowledge of key vocabulary and mathematical concepts, but also in promoting social skills, confidence and collaboration. Building in time to talk about mathematics ensures that children are better problem solvers, are more articulate when explaining strategies or reasoning, and promotes the ability to spot patterns and logical thinking.

Developing The Use Of Calculators In KS2

The Renewed Framework for Mathematics now expects children to begin developing calculator proficiency from Year 4, and be confident users on leaving primary school. There are still, however, many children (and teachers!), who lack confidence in using a calculator effectively, especially the use of the main functions (memory and constant), and the knowledge of when and how to use it to solve problems.

Using Models And Images To Aid Mathematical Understanding

The Renewed Primary Framework for Mathematics outlines a clear progression in the teaching and learning of both number and calculation. Within the learning overviews, and now available as separate documents, a wide variety of models and images are referenced (both practical and ICT based), which can very successfully aid children’s understanding of all number concepts.

The Approach To Calculation

Reddy-Made review the approach to calculation and the key elements of progression for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in KS1 & 2. Participants on the Reddy-Made training course will be able to become re-familiarised with the key NNS written methods and mental strategies for all four rules of number. Participants will be able to share ideas, activities and visual images that support the learning of calculation methods.

Effective Use Of The Renewed Framework For Mathematics

Is the Renewed Framework still causing planning problems? Confused between blocks, units, objectives, outcomes and overviews? Having navigation nightmares, unsure what to click, where to go? Would you like a simple approach to planning from the Framework and how to find what you need quickly and easily. The Reddy-Made training workshop outlines the content of the blocks to ensure coverage of all main topics but still leave enough flexibility for extra days to be made available.
